Hello! My name is Nicole Palos and I’m so excited to be sharing my post as a Guest Designer for Little Birdie Crafts!
Today I’ll be showing you the process of altering a book using Little Birdie lush and gorgeous Flowers, Chipboard, Stencil and Color Splash Sprays!
I start by ripping pages out and thinning the book down, I find my middle an separate the pages. after eyeballing and making sure its even I rip more pages one by one, pull them out and glue them back in upside down backward and funky way to add texture and depth to the book. I add in ribbon cheesecloth or tape (use what you have).
I coat the whole thing with Clear gesso. When that is dry I take a coffee dye (homemade) and give the book an old vintage look. With a brush, I add the coffee and then spritz with water and heat dry. The water helps spread the coffee mixture and feathers it out so you don’t end up with hard edges and lines.
Next I used Little Birdie Script Stencil with modeling paste. I love adding texture to my projects <3 <3
Now I’m adding my Little Birdie Flowers using gel medium.
Here we cover all the flowers with white gesso. I’ll set this aside to dry really well so my colors dont soak In.
After its good and dry, I start with my colors! That’s the most fun part!!! I’m using a baby wipe just so the colors don’t get everywhere. But don’t worry if they do; gesso will fix it right up!
I went with most of the colors in the rainbow! I used Little Birdie Color Splash sprays – Berry Blast, Tangerine, Gold Rush, Lemon Zing, Lime Splash, Ocean Mist and Grape Crush.
Now I like to finish the flowers off with giving them a good coating of gesso by dry brushing it on the textured raised up areas.
Thank you for stopping! Hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
Cheers and Hugs,
